About the place
The folk technical ensemble of Sârbi is a farmstead in the Cosău Valley, about 3 km from Budești. The stream is led along wooden channels to drive the vâltoare, a large wooden tub in which swirling water washes woollen blankets and rugs, the piuă, a fulling mill that pounds cloth to thicken it, a grain mill and a sawmill. The ensemble is a listed monument, dated to the 19th century.
A 2014 report described the owner, Gheorghe Opriș, who had rebuilt the whirlpool, distilled horincă and blueberry liqueur in his own still and kept a threshing machine more than a hundred years old. Google reviews mention the whirlpool, the brandy still, the fulling mill and the threshing machine, and some visitors were offered horincă to taste. It holds 4.5 on Google from about 420 reviews.
